Very good Indian takeaway from Suruchi Too

Suruchi Too is an Indian restaurant on Leith’s Constitution Street, which offers a home delivery service. Their takeaway menu is pretty simplistic: a main course with rice or nan bread costs ¬£7.50 and for just ¬£9 you can add a starter.

Chicken Balti & Rice from Suruchi Too, Edinburgh Suruchi Kebab Feast from Suruchi Too, Edinburgh

We ordered a chicken korma with pilau rice (£7.50) and Suruchi kebab feast, chicken balti and pilau rice (£9). For orders over £20 Suruchi Too include two bottles of Cobra beer (330ml), so to get this offer we added two plain nan breads to our order at £2.50 each. A speedy thirty minutes later the entry buzzer rang and after handing over £21.50 this latest curry feast was ours.

And I have to say this whole takeaway Indian meal was very high quality. The Suruchi kebab feast, at an effective price of £1.50, was outstanding value. It even included a small salmon kebab; in addition to tasty lamb, chicken and mince kebabs. All served with a fresh salad and mint yogurt sauce.

The main courses matched the high quality of the kebab starter. The chicken balti and chicken korma had plentiful amounts of succulent chicken, which was better quality than the meat provided by many Indian takeaways. Both curry sauces were excellent; the korma one of the best I have tasted and the chicken balti had just the right amount of kick. The nan breads were typical of nearly all Indian restaurants; how quickly they become lukewarm is always a frustration.

The korma and balti we ordered were taken from the ‘Scottish Favourite Main Course’ section of Suruchi Too’s menu. Some of the dishes on their ‘Exclusive Main Course’ section looked interesting e.g. spinach sensations or fenugreek fashion. The other starters included haggis fritters, samosas, pakoras and a fair selection of kebabs.

The only downside of this takeaway was the lack of complementary poppadoms. The cost to Suruchi Too would be negligible, but it’s little extras like this which would win repeat custom.

The fact the free beer provided by Suruchi Too is the branded Cobra beer, rather than cheaper equivalents, seems to describe Suruchi Too’s approach to cooking. I never got the impression Suruchi Too had compromised on ingredients, as the high quality chicken in both dishes demonstrated. I’m interested to try some of their lamb and prawn dishes, to see if these follow the same high standards.

Anyhow, definitely one of the better Indian takeaways I have had in Edinburgh and delivered for a reasonable price. Highly recommended.

Suruchi Too is located at 121 Constitution Street, Edinburgh, EH6 7AE. They also have a sit-in restaurant, which based on this evidence would be worth a try. Suruchi Too can be telephone on 0131 554 3268.

  1. Glad to read you enjoyed the Suruchi Too experience.

I’m a regular take-away and dine-in customer at Suruchi Too and have always found the food to be of a very high standard.

In addition to an extensive selection of indian dishes, over the past few months they’ve offered several special menus which have been quite imaginative - incorporating fine scottish ingredients into authentic indian cooking.

The staff also deserve a mention for their friendly attitude, and helpful manner.

    Keep up the good work.

  2. […] In a change to the norm I picked up the takeaway order in person from Sonar Gao’s HQ on Great Junction Street. The takeaway is nice enough with a small seating area and counter. Bizzarely there was a washing machine wedged infront of the counter when we visited - a temporary storage place I hope! As said previously it was a fine meal. The mixed kebab was plentiful and served with side salad, although no salmon kebab like I’d enjoyed from Surichi Too. […]
