Taste Good Chinese takeaway

Taste Good, The Chinese restaurant and takeaway located on Edinburgh’s Slateford Road, has an excellent online presence. You can view pictures of the restaurant and navigate through their menus for takeaway and at the table; you can also reserve a table in this modern looking restaurant online.

Taste Good also take orders through grub2u, but after a run of disastrous orders using this service I ordered my Chinese takeaway using the phone this time! My order was taken very efficiently and, more importantly, very accurately. Taste Good also accept payment via debit and credit card over the telephone, which is great should you not have enough cash at home with you.

For two of us I ordered:-

  • Spring Rolls (£3.70)
  • Half roast aromatic duck with pancakes: also comes with sauce and spring onion + cucumber (£11.80)
  • 10 Extra pancakes (£2)
  • Chicken fried rice (£4.50)
  • Two cans of Coke at 50p each - not on the menu but can be added to your order

Delivery was within half an hour and everything was piping hot. And the quality was up with the best Chinese takeaway I have eaten in Edinburgh. The spring rolls were very tasty indeed. The Chicken Fried rice was a little unique as good quality whole strips of chicken were served on top of the rice, and it lacked the omelette/peas found in most takeaway chicken fried rice dishes. I guess this adds a little ‘quality’ to the dish, as you can see the full strips of chicken used, rather than minute pieces chopped into the dish. Still it did seem more like Chicken with Rice than Chicken Fried rice, and I found it a little dry (more so than usual Chicken Fried rice!)

The half aromatic duck was very good quality - it was cooked well, tasted good (well you can’t blame a restaurant for doing what it’s name would suggest) and had plentiful meat. Having the extra 10 pancakes was probably greed on my part, as the 10 you get with the duck are more than adequate.

Overall I finished the takeaway extremely satisfied with the quality, quantity of food and service provided by Taste Good. For a good quality Chinese takeaway I’d recommend giving them a try. I’m also planning a trip to the Taste Good restaurant on Slateford road in the near future, as their very good takeaway food more than encourages a visit.
