One of our guest contributors has shared her happy experiences with a takeaway pizza from the Bruntsfield takeaway branch of Mamma’s pizza here in Edinburgh:-
Having had many takeaway pizza’s before I can safely say that this is the best pizza takeaway that I’ve ever had ! Although it was quite expensive, expect to pay around £10 for a large pizza; it was definitely worth every penny. There was the option to have BBQ sauce on the base instead of the standard tomato so I opted for this which I hadn’t tried before, accompanied with my usual pepperoni and onion topping. The pepperoni was shredded into small chunks and there was plenty of it; the onion was nice and crispy; the base was thin and crispy in the true Italian style. The BBQ sauce gave such an unusual twist to the pizza: making it a truly delicious combination!
The Mammas takeaway/delivery shop in Bruntsfield itself was small but inviting and was bustling with many busy chefs chopping, spinning and baking behind the counter. The aroma in the shop made was mouth watering and I strangely enough enjoyed waiting for my pizza to be made.
Mamma’s also sells wine which I thought was a little over priced at an average of £8 per bottle, although a convenient idea of getting all the necessities for a nice evening from one location. They also sell the kind of expected starters and deserts from a pizza takeaway, although I never sampled any of these: the pizza was definitely enough.
Big Mommas takeaway is located in the Bruntsfield area of Edinburgh and they have also a sit in restaurant in the Grassmarket. I would highly recommend a visit and to definitely try the BBQ sauce !
Mamma’s website allows registration and online ordering and you can also see their menu online. Example prices are £8.95 for a 12 inch pizza with two toppings, further toppings are £1.25 each. You can get pizza from 9 inch all the way to 16. Their website also contains a readable ‘About us’ section, where you can read up on the history and development of Mamma’s in Edinburgh.
