Sign up now for the BUPA Great Edinburgh run

This year the BUPA Great Caledonian Run has been renamed to the BUPA Great Edinburgh run. Anyhow, regardless of the name this 10K run (that’s 6.22 miles!) will take place on May 7th 2006. It starts and finishes in The Meadows but the route heads through Tollcross, along the West of Princes St and up The Mound. It also heads down Canongate and past the Scottish Parliament, Holyrood palace and by Holyrood Park - it even takes in Cowgate.

I think the route makes this one of the most picturesque and scenic 10k runs you could ever hope to compete in, or as I probably will, spectate for! Anyhow for the runners of you out there or anyone who wishes to compete applications are now being accepted via the great run website. It costs ÂŁ21 for Scottish Athletic members or ÂŁ23 for non-members.

The specific events page for The Great Edinburgh run 2006 is here. Minimum age of entry is 15 years old and the website also includes a PDF map of the 10k route.

Expect photos and some video of the event to be on The Edinburgh Blog post May 7th, although you may prefer the coverage Channel 5 will be taking and broadcasting that evening!

The 6 mile walk portion takes in Holyrood Park, Grass Market and Princes Gardens. The extra 6 miles head up to Leith and Ocean Terminal, calling past Meadowbank on the way back down. If you can’t manage 6 or 12 miles a 1 mile walk at Meadowbank stadium is also available for entering. […]
