Heavy Rain and a curry for the weekend

I can’t remember the last rain free day in Edinburgh! It’s fairly constant rainfall at the moment, and walking back from work this afternoon I took the following two pictures of the Water of Leith running through Stockbridge:-

Water of Leith, Edinburgh (1): fast flowing after all the rain!
Water of Leith, Edinburgh (2): fast flowing after all the rain!

The flow of the water was extremely fast and forceful; a great opportuntiy for white water rafting :-)

At the weekend I attended a house warming party over on Brunswick Street in the Hillside area of Edinburgh. So Sunday was spent hungover! However I did get a takeaway curry in from The Verandah on Dalry road. I had a Lamb Bhuna with plain nan and also some pilau rice. Unlike some Indian restaurants in Edinburgh no complimentary popadoms were provided. To order I used the interesting grub2u.com. This website, after entering your Edinburgh postcode, gives you a categorized list of takeaways who will deliver to your home e.g. Fish and Chips, Indian, Pizza. I’ve used it a fair bit in the past and the results have always been encouraging. Each takeaway publishes their own menu, to which you add items into your shopping cart. Some retailers will accept payment via debit/credit card over their secured link, and all will accept payment on delivery. I think the delivery times are probably a little longer than if you phone the restaurant up directly, but the opportunity to browse their online menu’s is a neat one. I would recommend giving the service a go!

  1. Grub2U is really good idea, I’ve used it a few times. The waiting time is about an hour right enough, but if you’re not starving hungry and order in advance it’s good to be able to browse through the online menu’s.
