I dined at Monteiths with my family last weekend as I have on several occasions before. I have always found the food to be of high quality and the menu unique. Despite the business of the festival, the staff were as welcoming and professional as always and I would STRONGLY recommend Monteiths to anyone who is looking for great food and great service in Edinburgh.

Our first impressions of Monteiths were very good, we were welcomed by the friendly staff and the menu looked good and excellent value. We were ordering from the lunch menu, I ordered the boulebaisse and ox cheeks and my girlfriend ordered the haggis spring rolls and pollock with chips. We both enjoyed our experiance and left the resteraunt very happy. That was until a few hours later when I began feeling unwell. I returned to our hotel for a rest and began feeling very cold. A short while later I became violently ill with severe sickness and diarrhea. I have never felt so ill in my entire life, that evening i must have consumed between 12-15 litres of water but was still extremely dehydrated, possibly due to the sickness and diarrhea. I became woried so called the NHS hotline who advised me to go to the imfirmary, I ignored this advice as I had a plane to catch early the next morning. After what was one of the worst nights of my life, I made it to the airport and returned home. The symptoms became so severe that I ended up in A&E and was advised that i had a nasty food related stomach bug. I am still a little queazy now some 48 hours later. I am now debating my next course of action but in the meantime I would advise any visitors to avoid the boulebaisse and ox cheek. =(
