Last night I went out for some dinner at ‘The Apartment’ restaurant in Bruntsfield, Edinburgh. The Apartment is sister to ‘The Outsider’ restaurant on George IV Bridge. The ambiance in the Apartment is warm and relaxed. Decoration is minimal but effective lighting and low ceilings help create a cosy, homely feel. The setting is perfect for a laid back but intimate meal.
The service was friendly, although the waitress opened our bottle of wine without pouring. The food was delicious and I would recommend the ‘Chunky Healthy Lines’ to anyone. They are char-grilled kebab skewers served with pitta and rhubarb coleslaw which are light but very tasty. They include delights such as Thai Chicken, King Prawns with pineapple or Monkfish, boiled potatoes with chilly and yogurt dressing.
The majority of Dishes are priced around the £8 - £10 mark with the house wine costing £11. There are no starters although they suggest that many of the skewered main dishes work well to share. The menu had recently changed and I was disappointed to discover that the ‘Soupy Stir-fries’ had been removed. Having tasted these before and thoroughly enjoyed them I was surprised that they had been taken off the menu as I thought these were unique, winning dishes. On the whole I had an enjoyable evening with great company in an idyllic setting with delicious food! Our meal for two with extra side dishes and a bottle of white wine cost approximately £38 pounds. I look forward to sampling the delights of the sister restaurant!
