The selling agent is noted as Creevy LLH. Although their poor website (at the time of writing it’s down due to customer visible database errors) does not list it yet. However, when working again, it does list other pubs for sale or let in Edinburgh - should you wish to fulfil many a persons dream of becoming a publican!
The last time I was in Halo the crowd was predominantly smokers, perhaps some of the bars loyal patrons. If so, not good news for trade when Scotland’s smoking ban comes into place this March. Also the bar is awfully ‘cosy’, which could just as easily be written ’small’. This is part of its appeal too though. It also strikes me as a place that many people don’t know exists - they don’t seem to do much promotion (I guess this is, in part, due to the upmarket image Halo aimed to create). It’s also a little ‘off the beaten track’ when compared to Sygn and Indigo Yard; the two style bars nearby. But Halo’s drink prices are on par with these competitors.
On a plus side I like the place. It’s a nice bar to enjoy drinks with a partner or a small group of friends in. The decor, although feeling its age a little, is reasonably effective. It’s a ‘cool’ kind of place, with a relaxed atmosphere. The cocktail, wine and champagne list is very good as things stand. With the right focus and promotion I think Halo could be a buzzing spot in the West End. It will be interesting to see what happens to the place…?
This post also gives me an excuse to post the photograph below of the mirror located near the entrance to Halo. It creates a nice effect. There’s also a picture of Halo’s drinks menu: both might not be there much longer!
