Lunch at Toby Carvery & drinks at The Murrayfield Hotel

As a final Lunch before the return to work, yesterday a few of us headed on the number 26 Lothian Bus to the Toby Carvery at Corstorphine in Edinburgh. This establishment has a bar to the left as you enter and lots of seats, including booths; one of which we sat at, to the right where you are seated to enjoy a meal.

The menu has an array of pub based starters, but the real attraction here is (as the name might suggest) is the carvery. For just £7.99 you can feast on a delicious carvery. You simply head up to the Chef who cuts your choice from Gammon, Turkey or Beef: you can select any combination or just one of the meats. For my liking the serving of meat could have been larger. However I struggle to pick fault with the rest of the food. You help yourself to the over-sized Yorkshire puddings, roast and boiled potatoes and a great selection of vegetables, including a very well done Cauliflower cheese. There is a nice selection of gravy and accompaniments e.g. Horseradish sauce, to help yourself to as well. After eating my whole meal I could manage no more - but you are more than welcome to head up for more food, apart from meat.

Like most persons who stop by here I had no room for a desert - although the chocolate fudge brownie did sound appealing! For a filling lunch or a great Sunday Roast I recommend Toby Carvery.

On the walk back into town we popped into the bar at The Murrayfield Hotel. Here we had a few drinks and enjoyed the West Ham vs. Chelsea Premier League football match on their two plasma TV’s and sizable projected image. The Murrayfield Hotel is a nice walk from the Haymarket part of Edinburgh and has a nice bar to enjoy a few drinks in. Also in the Summer the outdoor seating makes for an enjoyable pint. Obviously it gets a lot busier when there is some event on at Murrayfield stadium though!

  1. Are you aware of the Great Roast Debate that is currently taking place? It is a nationwide campaign and I do believe us Scots need to vote for our Scottish Beef as the overall favourite roast!! Anyone who participates in the debate via facebook on the official Toby Carvery page will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win 31 vouchers worth £50 each for a month of sundays at your local Toby carvery.
